Mermaid Theater at Weeki Wachee

The Mermaid Theater at Weeki Wachee has been running since 1947 and is truly “one of Florida’s oldest and most unique roadside attractions”. There is probably no other place on earth where you can watch mermaids swim.

Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is an hour or so north of Tampa. The park consists of a mini water park, a small animal show, a short river cruise and of course, the mermaids.  Entrance fee is a reasonable $13.00 for adults and $8.00 for children.  All the attractions are included with admission.

There are three mermaid performances per day. By waiting until late August we missed the crowds and easily found seating for all three shows.  In peak summer times the park fills to capacity and ticket sales stop.  Be there early during that time.

If you have an interest in old Florida or just like mermaids, Weeki Wachee is well worth the trip. We comfortably spent the day. With in/out park privileges allowed, we had lunch in town. There is good selection of restaurants in the Town of Weeki Wachee and nearby by Spring Hill.

This attraction is suited for the small child right through the elderly. Teens may find more fun at the water park but for the pure nostalgia, the fifteen minute mermaid show is worth the time.  http://www.weekiwachee.com/          http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2068
