Upper Tampa Bay park is another of Hillsborough county's beautiful park settings. Found on the north side of Tampa near Oldsmar along old Tampa Bay this peninsular park is well worth a short visit if you're in the area.
At this park you will find plenty of water birds during season as they feed and nest in the salt marshes and mangrove forests. There is plenty of picnicking in the park with modern restroom facilities, a large nature center and children's playground. The short boardwalk lines Tampa Bay and gives some lovely views over oyster bars and Native American shell mounds. There is a small two dollar fee but this should not deter you from a short visit to see the coastal habitat complete with mangrove crabs.
The site offers canoe and kayak rentals and a launch that is the start of a 6 1/2 mile round trip Canoe Trail with habitats ranging from shallow freshwater pines to Pineflat woods and mangrove.
