Osceola National Forest
Telephoto Florida was not impressed with this park found a couple miles east of Lake City and considers it a pass. We went in search of the red-cockaded woodpecker and our long drive through the forest not only did not yield and wood peckers, we saw no birds at all.
As we set up our tripod to take the photos of the trail head shown here we were greeted by burly personnel from the Columbia Correctional Institution across the street. They made us feel totally unwelcome, so we quickly packed up and left. Perhaps never to come back.
There are other places to find the red-cockaded woodpecker.
