John Chestnut Sr. Park is located in Pinellas County near Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor on the shores of Lake Tarpon.

This is a beautiful piece of the wilderness settled inside the suburbs of North Tampa and is very much a community park, ideal for family picnics and get togethers like  birthday parties.

The park is a popular location for nearby residents.  Although there is plenty of parking it can fill up on weekends and holidays.

John Chestnut Sr Park encompasses some 255 acres. There are three nature trails, plenty of picnic shelters,  modern restrooms, a beach  volleyball court and a playground for the children.  It was nice to see that this is a dog friendly park and has its own dog park within the boundaries of the park.  There is a boat launch with a small fee and a 40 ft observation tower.  The boardwalks take you through Cyprus freshwater swamps along Brooker Creek.

As for birding, I can see this being a nice park during migration and for water fowl and wading birds.  On this February afternoon it was quiet with only a few Anhingas, Herons, Coots and Grebes within easy sight.

The park is open from 7 AM to dusk all year long.
